The Advances of Indian Research in the New Millennium
Many companies are outsourcing out to India. India is a promised land, offering much in the medical and scientific research. Indians shine in the medical and technology fields, and many other fields. Research and advances in these fields make the news, as bright Indian minds are leading research projects. In medicine, India not only puts research efforts in traditional medicine, but also in herbal medicine and a holistic approach. Indian medicinal plants are an important part of that culture as well. Research on the areas of biopharmacognosy, clinical therapeutics, pharmacology, and chemistry continues to be encouraged, as well as ways to find new developments and applications of plant medicine. Biological science and biotechnology are highly encouraged in India.
Research in human health, diseases, cell biology, plant cell and molecular biology, bioinformatics and structural biology are areas of research in India. Education is another area where efforts are being made. Another area in which India is making efforts is Forestry Research. India is paying attention to the sustainable management of forests and of how the increase in population affects this resource. Forest use and conservation is an important topic in India. Agricultural research is another area of interest.
Aerospace is another important area of research in India. Boeing has a research center in India. Researchers, engineers and scientists who are amongst the best in the world work on projects that will influence the future of aerospace, in aero structures, electronic networks, aerodynamics, and new technologies. Boeing is known as the biggest manufacturer in commercial and military aviation and the leading aerospace company in the world.
ISRO - Indian Space Research Organisation - is one of the most important organizations in the world in the field of space research. It is a government agency, and considered one of the most efficient agencies worldwide. India's work on the field of earth observation satellites is well-known and praised. India's communication network of satellites is one of the largest in the world. Their Natural Resource Management Program is dependent on that technology and an important issue on India's agenda.
Computer science research in India is another major area of development. Technical manpower in India is one of the biggest in the world; software industry is growing exponentially in that country. India's science and technology students from top educational institutions are recognized by other world institutions as some of the brightest, as well as sought by many European and US research universities.
Horticultural research is another area in which India has excelled. India is the second largest producer of vegetables (the first is China). Self-sufficiency in food is one of the areas in which India has focused efforts. Crop improvement, development of hybrids, seed production, development of disease and pest resistant varieties, and agro-techniques are some of the areas in vegetable research in India.
The Department of Science and Technology Government of India oversees SERC - The Science and Engineer Research Council. SERC activities include the following areas - Mathematical Science, Engineering Science, Earth and Atmospheric Science, Physical Science, Life Science, and Chemical Science. The new millennium presents India as one of the hot spots in the planet were many developments and discoveries will take place. For more information on the topic visit kitesindia.org.
